30 paintings in 30 days

January 3, 2014

~Painting #1~

I signed up for the wonderful artist Leslie Saeta's challenge: 30 paintings in 30 days, starting on the first of January 2014. I thought, why not start the new year with a BANG! I know it's going to be a lot of work, and I really want to take advantage of this challenge to practice oils, acrylics, and watercolors. But if I run out of time, or if I have to work on special orders, I'll have to post colored pencils paintings too. Actually, that's kind of what I did with my first one, which is part of a fun project I've been working on.

Taz - 4x6" - Colored Pencils - SOLD

Christmas orders

January 3, 2014

I didn't blog much during the holidays.

That's because I was busy with my Christmas commission work, and I didn't want to post them here and spoil the surprise. This year I mostly did dog portraits, which is a nice change.
Here are all the portraits I did last month:

Simon Peter - 9x12" - Colored Pencils

Henry - 8x10" - Colored Pencils

Chan Xiu - 16x20" - Colored Pencils

No-Be-No - 5x7" - Colored Pencils

Wilfie - 8x10" - Colored Pencils

A fun project I've been working on

January 2, 2014

A cute bunch of Bearded Collies.

My client asked me to make the portraits of her 6 pooches. She's going to frame them as a collage. Here are the first 4. They're all 4x6" done in colored pencils.

Commission

October 28, 2013

When I took on this new challenge,

Being the detail freak that I am, I was excited to see the quality of the picture, and the great background my client had asked me to add. I just didn't realize the background would take a lot more time to finish than the puppy herself!
The 90 lb paper I used now feels like it's actually 140 lb, with all the pencil layers I used!! :p

However, it was a fun challenge, and I'm very pleased with the result.

What do you think?
